Having started his career in the publishing industry, SDP has done illustrations for fiction and nonfiction writers like Swatyantraveer Savarkar, Mahadev Shastri Joshi, G. N. Dandekar, N. S. Phadke, D. B. Mokashi, Vasundhara Patwardhan and others.

Also for humour writers like Shripad Krishna Kolhatkar, C. V. Joshi, P. L. Deshpande, D. M. Mirasdar, V. P. Kale, Shakuntala Phadnis, Dilip Prabhavalkar and Mangala Godbole.

S D Phadnis studied at the prestigious Sir J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai.

During childhood, He spent hours sketching at various locales of Kolhapur. He had also won three state level awards in the intermediate drawing grade exam. While in Mumbai, he began cartooning alongside as a hobby. 

Over the years, he made it his own, nurtured it and raised it to new heights. His diverse creations have demonstrated that cartoons are not just images giving momentary joy, but indeed an art form to be taken seriously!

He says, “If the art of cartooning had not challenged my creativity as an artist, I would have pursued painting”.
