Social cartoons published as magazine covers

Phadnis’s visual language – his cartoons are attractively colourful, from day to day life, easy to understand, with perfect drawing and anatomy. His landmark contribution is the creation of 73 consecutive annual cover cartoons for the popular Marathi Mohini Diwali magazine from 1952 to 2024 and on – a global record for consistency and originality.

In 1952, the celebrated Cats and Mice cartoon was published as the cover of the Mohini Diwali edition. This illustration was completely different from the norm of those days.

I see how the British, over 80 years, slowly captured and started ruling India in this painting. Was this ever seen or noticed at that time by anyone?
